Gel Polish Removal Tutorial with Sephora by OPI gelshine kit!

After a few days of wearing the gel polish I decided to take it off, so I pulled out the handy Sephora by OPI gelshine kit for all the tools I needed!

To remove gel nail polish, all you need is:

    1. 100% acetone
    2. cotton balls/pads
    3. some method of keeping the cotton attached to the gel polish for 20 – 30 minutes (i.e. aluminum foil)

If you have the Sephora by OPI gelshine kit, or if you have access to the Sephora by OPI products all you need is:

    1. 10 removal nail wraps
    2. nail & gel color remover

As seen here, all you need from the Sephora by OPI gelshine kit are the removal nail wraps and the nail & gel color remover

Step 1: Soak the nail wrap with the nail and gel color remover, or if you don’t have it just use 100% acetone.

Here’s how the cotton pad should look fully soaked with remover solution, definitely don’t skimp! If you do the polish may not completely dislodge itself from the nail. If you don’t have these wraps, just wrap your fingers with aluminum foil after positioning an acetone soaked cotton ball on top of the nail.

Step 2: Wrap each finger as you soak each pad. The solution evaporates quickly so it’s better if you do one finger at a time instead of soaking all ten pads and then applying them to your fingers. Make sure to wrap the finger tightly so it won’t budge for the next 20-30 minutes.

Here’s how it should look after you’ve wrapped all fingers on one hand. BTW, make sure to wrap the tip of the finger, don’t leave a gaping hole, the solution will evaporate quicker that way and you’ll have to drizzle more polish remover solution.

Step 3: leave the wraps on for 20-30 minutes (30 is probably a safer bet), and pull the wraps off. The polish should pop off by itself as seen below. If it doesn’t lift off by itself you can gently lift one side of it to see how well it’s still stuck to your nail. If the majority of it is still stuck on pretty well, put the wrap back on your finger and wait another 5 minutes. If on the other hand most of the polish is off but for a small area, pull it off gently and then use a wood stick or cuticle pusher to remove the stubborn polish.

The polish literally came off all in one piece without any effort on my part!

Here are all the nail wraps and gel polish removed from my left hand. I seriously love how easy it was to remove the gel nail polish using the nail wraps.

Here’s how my nails looked after I washed my hands following removal of all the wraps, and massaging some argan oil into my cuticles.

I’m very impressed with how good my nails look even after all the gel polish and acetone abuse it took for the last week. I’ve had some pretty bad gel polish experiences in the past, so I’m super happy with the products in the Sephora by OPI gelshine kit.

Thanks so much, Deb! I was trying to find Sephora’s video on the gelshine removal kit, but the Sephora server was down. I Googled the kit and found your page! Very thorough explanations. I like how you showed the polish popped-off. This is similar to a very abbreviated version of the video Sephora for OPI does on the Sephora page for the gelshine polish kit. I was avoiding gel polish, but this gives me hope. More and more exciting gel colors are being developed monthly.
