I’ve been seriously getting behind on the Birchbox reviews. So here’s a look at the April, May, and June birchboxes I received!
April: “Natural Wonders”
Pangea Organics Lip Balm
May: “Gossip Girl – Chic Sunday Brunch”
“warm notes of citron, palm leaves, and myrtle combine in this transporting scent, inspired by the aromas of a medieval harvest festival in Calabria, Italy.” – I like the scent, it’s kind of musty and citrusy
“four in one moisturizer, serum, sunscreen, and skin-perfecting tint as the swiss army knife of your beauty lineup” – I’ve been using the Dr. Jart+ Premium BB cream and it’s not as good as my trusty Dr. G Brightening Balm in creating the illusion of flawless, dewy skin.
“keep your makeup sponges and brushes in prime condition with this soy-based formula, which removes built-up bacteria and oil.” – I really like this sponge cleanser, except for the fact that the full-size bottle is $17.95. For that price, you could get like 5 bottles of mild dish detergent which works just as well…
Color Club Nail Polish in Disco Nap
“gives nails a gilded look with this luxe metallic polish” – honestly I’m sure you’ve already got something like this in your collection already, it’s just a normal shimmery gold polish. Plus it’s hard to apply without making it super streaky, I tried really hard to make it even…but it just wasn’t happening (you can kind of tell in the color swatch that I did)
Love these things, I wish my head was the right shape to wear it though. My oddly shaped head has serious problems with headbands of all shapes and sizes, I’ve pretty much given up on that front. If I want to put my hair up I usually use spin pins they work amazingly well, most definitely my go to hair accessory.
June: “Jet Set”
I was very impressed with the June birchbox! It’s been a few months since I got a substantial product, and this one is pretty amazing! I love Stila products, so I was super excited about this. The serum is light and it does give the skin a bronzed and shimmery effect. I probably wouldn’t use it on my face though because I’m still pretty fair (even though it’s summer…).
La Fresh Eco-Beauty Oil-Free Face Cleanser Wipes
“even the most stubborn mascara yields to these biodegradable wipes, which are laced with moisturizing jojoba and other plant oils.” – Nope, my mascara most definitely won this one. I used an entire sheet just for the right side of my face and I still looked like a panda, seriously. I was pretty disappointed with these, if you really want to use makeup remover wipes you should try the MAC makeup remover wipes, they’re pretty much AMAZING. The MAC ones come in 100 sheet packs for $40. A great drugstore alternative would be the Garnier towelettes ($6 for 25 wipes).
theBalm Cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen – two in one lip and cheek stain
“We’re crazy about this two-in-one lip and cheek stain: the sheer gel formula delivers a subtle, long-wearing flush.” I didn’t find this color to be pigmented enough personally, you can see in the swatch below, it didn’t really show up on my skin. Maybe it would work better if I layered it?
“pack light with this versatile bar, that cleanses and conditions skin all over your body. It can also be used as shaving cream!” – It smells amazing!
Birchbox is pretty good in terms of providing a variety of products in their monthly shipments, my only quip with them is that most of the time I don’t get my box until mid month which is not so great. BTW if anyone wants the Stila one step bronze serum let me know, I’ll send it to you!
I hope everyone had a great weekend!
