Normally I’m not a morning person, but when I came back from China over the summer the jetlag woke me up at 6 AM on a sunday morning with a huge craving for breakfast food. I found Blu Jam Cafe on Yelp because it had amazing ratings by other local foodies, so I decided to go check it out. I’m SOOOOO glad that I did!
We got there around 10 AM for brunch and we found street parking one block away from the restaurant. There was a wait but it wasn’t too long, probably around 20 minutes. There was a good number of people in front of us so it seems like they do a good job of circulating the customers in and out. (I guess also because people don’t hang around as long for brunch as they do for dinner).
After we were seated, Gary and I started off with their signature crunchy french toast as seen below, which is served on the weekend and holidays. It came with fresh strawberries, and bananas on top, but the best part was definitely the outer coating of corn flakes which gave it such a great crunch. That along with the creamy and sweet buttermilk dip made this one of the best french toast experiences of my life.
Following the crunchy french toast, we were presented with our main dishes which were the Brunch Burger for Gary, and the Blu Jam Benedict for me. Gary said that he absolutely loved his burger, it had a perfect sunny side up egg on the top of it that oozed onto the burger when he cut into it with his knife. The brunch burger is topped with an overeasy egg, crisp bacon, cheddar and chipotle aioli sauce.
As you can see from the picture below…the Blu Jam Benedict is beautiful to look at, but it tastes even better than it looks. From the Blu Jam website, here’s the menu description of the Blu Jam Benedict, “Poached eggs on a toasted English muffin with Black Forest Ham, crispy bacon, topped with hollandaise, served with potatoes.” I think what made the Blu Jam Benedict special was the hollandaise sauce, it was extra creamy and delicious on everything.
The prices were definitely reasonable for the amazing quality of the food. For example, my Blu Jam Benedict was $11.95. Also, according to USA Today, “L.A. residents voted Blu Jam the best breakfast spot in L.A.” If you ever find yourself in west hollywood on a saturday/sunday morning definitely go try out their weekend breakfast/brunch menu!
