My New Hair Color & Style by Johnny Ramirez and Anh Co Tran!

Hi Everyone!

I’m SUUUPER excited to share my recent hair adventures with you! In my previous post I talked about making an appointment with celebrity hair colorist Johnny Ramirez and celebrity hair stylist Anh Co Tran for a new hair color and cut. I’m happy to say that it was an AMAZING experience and I absolutely love my new hair! I’ve been getting tons of compliments!

I actually went back to the salon a week later right before Barristers Ball (aka Law School Prom) to get my hair styled by Anh and to take pictures with them to show you guys! Johnny Ramirez is the fantastic colorist on the left in the picture, and Anh Co Tran is the amazing hair stylist on the right.

The entire process took about 10 hours … (yeah I know) … but in the end it was completely worth it.

It began with a hair consultation with Johnny and Anh. They looked at my reference pictures (seen in my previous post) and asked me about how I wanted my hair to look. I was unsure about bangs and the length of my hair, but Anh was quick to dispel my insecurities and told me that my current length was great. He told me that all my hair needed was some movement. After that he deftly snipped the ends of my hair and cut some layers into the hair closest to my face. Prior to this, I had never had my hair cut while it was still dry so it was a new experience for me.

After the haircut with Anh, Johnny proceeded with his proprietary coloring process. Johnny is meticulous with his bleaching techniques and customizes the color to your specific length and style of hair. Below is a picture of what my head looked like after the first round of bleaching. Johnny uses his own technique to create a natural ombre style that is light on the tips and slowly fades to a darker color halfway up the hair. He teases small sections of hair so that only a portion of the hair gets bleached, this way it looks a lot more natural once the bleached hair and non-bleached hair is intermingled.

After bleaching the bottom portions of the hair, his assistants went back and “bled” the bleach up each tuft of hair to eliminate the lines of delineation between bleached hair and non-bleached hair. After that Johnny went back and bleached portions of hair around my face to create highlights (picture shown below). Following that step, the foil wrapped strands of hair are also bled to create a more natural ombre effect.

FINAL RESULT! This is how my hair looked that night after I returned to my apartment (picture below). I look so tired haha.

The next three pictures are taken the day after. I showered so my hair went back to being dead straight. It looks SUPER blonde in pictures because only the hair around the face is visible, but in reality most of my head is a light brown color lol.

The following three pictures were taken today. I attempted to curl my hair like Anh did … but alas I am not as skilled as he is. I think my curling iron may be too big? I think I’ll have to look into investing in a smaller barreled curling iron.

Johnny and Anh did such an amazing job that I don’t think I’ll be able to DIY it anymore …

ALSO, they have a serious celebrity following … I literally sat next to Margot Robbie, who was reading a movie script the entire time Johnny was doing her hair.

If you want more information about how to book an appointment with Johnny and Anh, you can either go to boxno216 and email Johnny for color, or go to misteranhcotran and email Anh for a new haircut and style. They are also opening a new salon in Beverly Hills sometime this summer! Super looking forward to it!

In all seriousness though, Anh and Johnny are very passionate and dedicated to their craft and it really shows through their amazing work. I’m really glad I decided to go to them for my hair needs, and I will most definitely go back to them next time. Their fees are reasonable for the amazing results that they produce, although it’s definitely not for everyone. I’m sure once you see the before and after pictures on their blogs you will want to book an appointment with them too!

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Haircut of the Year?!

Hi everyone!

I’m in the process of making an appointment to see Johnny Ramirez for a new hair color and Anh Co Tran for a haircut…

I never realized how involved dying and cutting hair at a salon could potentially be until now. I’ve always just dyed my hair myself since I love DIY projects and I love the control I have over how my hair color will turn out. Regardless, I came across Johnny’s blog while doing research on hair coloring, and I was pretty much convinced after the first page of before and afters that he is the go to person for professional hair coloring.

I sent Johnny an email and his wonderful assistant Joanna promptly replied with a set of questions for me to answer as well as a request for current hair photos and desired color/cut photos.

Here are the example photos that I sent back (the first two are both color/cuts by Johnny and Anh respectively):

Not so sure that I can pull off Karlie Kloss’ “haircut of the year,” but I do love the overall look.

I’ll put up before and afters of my pro hair salon adventure once it happens!

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

Sunday Night Obsession – Proenza Schouler Double Bag with Chain

OMG this Proenza Schouler bag is AMAZING … I have been looking for a cross body bag in a fun color AND a chain strap for months. I’m going to dream about it until I can get my hands on it.

Face Cleansing Routine for Oily / Combination Skin

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to do a post about face wash and cleansing the skin because a clear complexion is the first and most important step to beautiful makeup application during the day, and proper skin care absorption at night.

The three products I use on a daily basis are the best that I have found thus far for my oily-combination skin. Trust me when I say that these three are winners in their respective categories, and I plan on using them for a long time to come.

Daytime Routine = Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

Face cleansing with fresh soy face cleanser ($38 for 5.1 oz/$15 for 1.7 oz)

I have never thought much of fresh products other than their sugar lip treatments, but after trying a sample of this product I received with a Sephora order, I was hooked. It’s a very gentle cleanser that’s great for morning use since there’s not much deep cleaning required after getting up from bed. I love the scent and the softness it imparts in my skin after toweling off. It does not lather, so if anyone’s into a lather-y face cleanse this is probably not the product for you. I’m truly impressed with this cleanser, no complaints here! Also, this product is suitable for all skin types!

Nighttime Routine = Shu Uemura Skn Purifier Cleansing Oil + Tatcha Polished Deep Rice Enzyme Powder

Step 1 = makeup removal with shu uemura skin purifier ($90 for 15.2 fl oz)

THE BEST makeup remover/cleanser I have encountered. I have been using this product in various formulations for the last five years and I have yet to find a product that works better than this one. It comes in various formulations for oily skin, dry skin, skin whitening, antioxidant properties, moisture balance etc… the one that I am currently using (ultime8) is the newest addition to the line. It’s supposed to be the “ultimate solution to skin cleansing,” although I have to say the cleansing beauty premium A/O advanced formula is still my favorite (comes in the green bottle). It also comes in a smaller 5.07 fl oz size which is almost half the price, but the bigger bottle has triple the amount of product. LOVE LOVE LOVE. MUST HAVE.

All you have to do is put two to three pumps of the oil into dry hands and massage it onto your grimy end of the day makeup face to get rid of EVERYTHING in 15 seconds. Then just put a little water in your hands and massage it into your face until the oil becomes creamy in appearance. After that just rinse it off and VOILA ~ perfectly cleansed face! Can you tell that I love this product?!

Step 2 = skin cleansing with tatcha polished deep rice enzyme powder ($65 for 2.1 oz)

I always use a second cleanser after removing all the makeup from my face to get a really deep clean. I’m really impressed with Tatcha’s deep rice enzyme powder. I honestly didn’t think it would be good since it comes in a bizarre dry powder consistency, but once you splash some water on it, the powder turns into a wonderful foamy, creamy lather. Since using this product, my face has become much smoother and my skin appears more refined. It comes in three formulations; deep rice enzyme powder for oily skin (me), classic rice enzyme powder for normal skin, and gentle rice enzyme powder for sensitive skin. It’s also great for travel since it’s not a liquid or a gel! I’m seriously loving this product!

If you’re looking for a face cleanser, definitely try these out. If you don’t have oily skin, look for the most suitable formulation for you.

Happy friday!! I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Review: CND Shellac Power Polish in Wildfire

Hi everyone!

I’ve been looking to buy a crimson gel nail polish ever since fall fashion has been showcased in magazines. So I was super excited when I found this CND Shellac color in Wildfire; it’s the perfect shade of red for fall. Wildfire is a warm toned red, which is my preference because my skin has a yellow undertone to it.

Annnd…here’s what it looks like on my foot. (FYI the reason why the photo looks bizarre is because I edited the picture, my toes aren’t the most attractive things in the universe lol and I didn’t want to subject all of you to it.)
cnd shellac power polish in wildfire review

Keep in mind that this product is unique to CND, it’s not exactly gel polish, and not exactly regular polish. I still used my Sephora LED light to cure the polish, but it took more time for each layer to harden. In the end, I think the result is really nice, and it has gotten even shinier in the last week.

Overall Grade = B+

Only reason why it’s a B+ and not an A is because of the curing time. It takes twice as long for the shellac to harden under an LED light than my other gel polishes.

Review – Tory Burch Kaitlin Flats

Hi Everyone!

Since I promised a review of the Tory Burch Kaitlin flats here it is!

I love the bow they put on the Tory Burch shoe boxes, it’s a really nice touch! You’ll see in a later picture what I used the bow for…haha.

I’m not really sure why they ripped off the price from the box, it’s not like it’s a secret.

I love the overall quilted design of the shoe and the contrast of the gold cap toe, it looks very Chanel inspired to me. LOVE IT!
tory burch kaitlin flats fall 2012 gold cap toe review

It definitely looks great in the pictures online, but it looks even better in person. I really love the contrast of the gold cap toe and the quilted texture of the leather.

Tory Burch did a great job incorporating her own logo into the gold cap toe, it doesn’t look as ostentatious as her classic Reva flats, but it’s still undeniably Tory Burch.

They’re very comfortable on! The shoe really conforms to the shape of your foot. My only complaint is that they’re kind of stiff when I first wore them but this has happened with all of my Tory Burch flats. I wore them out on date night with my boyfriend to watch Looper ( AMAZING movie BTW if you haven’t seen it, definitely worth watching in theaters), and my right heel had a blister by the end of the night. I don’t want to make excuses for the shoes since I love them so much, but I have really sensitive skin on my ankles, so this may not happen to everyone. Also, the 6 was true to size.

I put the bow on the shoe box to good use! Miya didn’t like her new accessory as much as I liked it though…she kept clawing at it so I had to take it off eventually.

All in all, I’m really loving these Tory Burch flats. I have more pairs of black flats than I dare to admit, but these Kaitlin flats are definitely unique and well worth the $265 price tag. I will be getting a lot of wear out of these flats for the next few years for sure. I’m already compiling potential outfits to wear with them!! They also come in nude, and sand if you’re interested in getting them in another color.

I can’t believe it’s almost Halloween!!!

Current Obsession – Shoes with Gold Accents

For fall, I’ve been obsessing over gold accents on shoes. Every single pair of shoes that I’ve purchased in the last month have had gold accents on them. I think it’s a great way to add some luxe into your autumn and winter styles. I found some great shoes while hunting for the perfect fall boot, and thought that it would be a great idea to share them with everyone!
